Fontanafredda 2021/22 Briccotondo Barbera

Fontanafredda, established in 1858 in Piedmont, is one of the region’s historic and influential producers, known for its role in shaping modern Italian winemaking. Based in the Langhe, the winery combines traditional practices with contemporary techniques, focusing on sustainability and regional typicity. The Briccotondo line is designed to highlight classic Piedmont varieties in a more accessible style. Barbera grapes are sourced from vineyards across the region, where the variety thrives due to its natural acidity and adaptability to different soils.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep ruby with violet hues
Nose: Bright aromas of red cherry, plum, and blackberry, with subtle hints of spice and fresh herbs
Palate: Medium-bodied with lively acidity, featuring juicy red and dark fruit flavours, soft tannins, and a smooth texture
Finish: Fresh and clean, with lingering red fruit and a touch of spice

Cellaring & Pairings
Best enjoyed young within 3–5 years of the vintage to highlight its freshness and fruit profile.

Pairs well with tomato-based pasta dishes, pizza, grilled meats, and charcuterie. Its acidity also makes it well-suited to rich or savoury dishes, including roasted vegetables and aged cheeses.
