Le Vieux Donjon 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge

Le Vieux Donjon is a family-owned estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape with a reputation for producing some of the appellation’s most authentic and age-worthy wines. Founded by Lucien Michel and now led by Claire Michel, the estate follows a traditional philosophy focused on vineyard expression rather than cellar manipulation.
The 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge is typically composed of approximately 75% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, and 5% Cinsault, sourced from multiple parcels throughout the appellation. The vineyards are planted on a mix of galets roulés (large rounded stones), sandy soils, and clay-limestone sites, providing both power and finesse.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep ruby with purple and garnet reflections

Nose: Aromas of black cherry, raspberry liqueur, plum, and blackberry layered with notes of garrigue, lavender, licorice, black pepper, and subtle earth

Palate: Full-bodied and beautifully balanced, with concentrated red and dark fruit flavours supported by fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. Layers of spice, dried herbs, olive tapenade, and mineral notes add depth and complexity

Finish: Long and persistent, with lingering fruit, savoury herbs, pepper, and classic Rhône earthiness
