Lionel Faury 2022 St-Joseph La Gloriette Vieilles Vignes

Lionel Faury 2022 St-Joseph La Gloriette Vieilles Vignes

A well-composed, vibrant and precise Saint-Joseph with so much energy, transparency and drive. The nose shows notes of dark cherries, currants, crushed stones, violets and black pepper. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins. Silky texture at the center with a harmonious frame of finely grained tannins structuring the mid-palate. Plenty of texture, brightness and minerality to the transparent and crunchy dark cherry character. Vivid and flavorful with a long, vibrant finish.Β - James SucklingΒ

Lionel Faury 2022 St-Joseph La Gloriette Vieilles Vignes

The 2022 vintage in the Northern RhΓ΄ne was characterized by hot, dry weather, resulting in small, concentrated berries and low yields. Despite the warmth, Faury’s high-altitude, granite-rich sites in Saint-Joseph benefited from cooler nights and minimal disease pressure, helping retain freshness and balance. As a result, the wines are intensely flavored yet beautifully structured, with ripe tannins, lifted aromatics, and the kind of savory complexity that defines top-tier Syrah.

Tasting Notes & Serving Suggestions
Opens with lifted aromas of violet, blackberry, peppercorn, and smoked herbs, backed by nuances of iron, lavender, and grilled meat. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and tightly knit, delivering flavors of bramble fruit, olive tapenade, graphite, and roasted spices. The tannins are firm but fine-grained, supported by refreshing acidity and classic RhΓ΄ne minerality. The finish is long and savory, leaving a lasting impression of black plum, cracked pepper, and earthy depth.
Serve at 16–18Β°C (61–64Β°F) in large Syrah or Burgundy-style glasses to accentuate its floral and savory components. Decanting for 1–2 hours will help open the wine’s aromatics and soften its youthful tannins. It pairs beautifully with roast lamb with rosemary, duck breast with blackberry jus, grilled sausages, or mushroom-lentil ragout. It will develop gracefully over the next 8-12 years.
