Mate Brunello di Montalcino

Maté is a boutique producer in Montalcino focused on crafting expressive, terroir-driven wines from Sangiovese Grosso, the local clone used exclusively for Brunello di Montalcino. The estate’s vineyards benefit from the region’s rolling hills, excellent sun exposure, and well-drained galestro and clay-limestone soils.

Montalcino’s warm days and cool nights allow for slow, even ripening, helping preserve acidity while building concentration and aromatic complexity. Brunello di Montalcino is subject to strict ageing regulations, contributing to the wine’s structure and longevity.

Fermentation is typically carried out with extended maceration to extract depth and tannin, followed by prolonged ageing in oak casks and/or barrels before additional bottle maturation. The style emphasizes balance between ripe fruit, savoury complexity, and refined structure.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep garnet with ruby reflections
Nose: Aromas of cherry, dried raspberry, and plum, layered with notes of tobacco, leather, cedar, dried herbs, and spice
Palate: Full-bodied, with vibrant acidity and firm yet polished tannins; flavours of red and dark fruit are complemented by earthy undertones, balsamic notes, and subtle oak spice
Finish: Long and persistent, with lingering cherry, savoury herbs, spice, and mineral complexity

Cellaring & Pairings
Excellent ageing potential; enjoy now with extended decanting or cellar for 10–20+ years.
Pairs exceptionally well with braised meats, wild game, grilled steak, and rich Tuscan cuisine. Also complements truffle dishes, mushroom risotto, and aged cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano and Pecorino Toscano.
