Bruichladdich Octomore 16.3

Bruichladdich Octomore 16.3

An intensely peated, cask-strength Islay single malt that combines powerful smoke with impressive elegance and detail. Matured in a nuanced mix of bourbon, Sauternes, and Pedro Ximénez casks, it brings together earthy peat, honeyed malt, toasted grain, and a refined thread of salinity. Bold yet composed, it is a vivid expression of Octomore’s signature intensity shaped by local barley and layered cask influence.

Octomore 16.3

Bruichladdich Distillery, founded in 1881 on Islay, is known for its modern, provenance-driven approach to Scotch whisky, with a strong focus on terroir, transparency, and raw ingredient character. The Octomore series, launched in 2008, is designed to explore the outer limits of peat while still preserving balance and complexity. Octomore 16.3 is made from single-estate Islay barley grown in Church Field on Octomore Farm, just a few miles from the distillery. It was distilled in 2019, peated to 189.5 PPM, matured for five years in a combination of first-fill bourbon, first-fill Pedro Ximénez, and second-fill Sauternes casks, and bottled at 61.6% ABV. As with the rest of the range, it is presented at natural colour and without chill filtration.

Tasting Notes:
Nose: Honeyed malt and toasted grain rise through earthy peat smoke, with subtle salinity, gentle sweetness, and a distinctive rustic, barley-forward depth.

Palate: Rich and smoky with sweet oak, rounded malt, soft dried fruit, and warming spice, balanced by earthy character and a fresh coastal edge. This is an inference based on the official cask makeup and Bruichladdich’s tasting description.

Finish: Long and lingering with persistent peat smoke, sweet grain, gentle wine-cask richness, and a refined saline note. This is also an inference from the official production details and tasting profile.
