Rodney Strong 2020/21 Chalk Hill Chardonnay

Sourced from the Chalk Hill AVA in Sonoma County, the vineyards sit on volcanic-ash derived soils (white ash/chalky loam) that impart a subtle mineral backbone to the wines. The 2020 vintage featured a dry growing season, with moderate yields, 100% Chardonnay, and 17 months ageing in French oak barrels (37% new). The 2021 vintage was milder and offered refined fruit ripeness with noted freshness and minerality.

This Chardonnay offers nuanced aromas of lemon pie, quince, green apple and hints of pine crust and vanilla bean. On the palate, ripe pear and citrus zest are balanced by creamy oak texture and a bright, mineral-tinged finish. The 2020 version shows lemon-custard and grapefruit zest lift, while the 2021 version leans toward poached pear, hazelnut and fresh orchard fruit with clean acidity.
