Spoke Awatere Sauvignon Blanc

Spoke Wines is a New Zealand producer focused on single-vineyard and terroir-driven expressions from Marlborough. The Awatere Valley, located in the southern part of Marlborough, is cooler and windier than the neighbouring Wairau Valley, producing Sauvignon Blanc with heightened acidity, pronounced aromatics, and a more mineral, herbaceous profile.

The vineyards benefit from long sunshine hours combined with cool nights, allowing grapes to ripen slowly while retaining freshness and intensity. Soils in the Awatere Valley are often stony and free-draining, contributing to the wine’s precision and structure.

Fermentation is typically carried out in stainless steel to preserve aromatic purity and vibrant fruit character, with little to no oak influence. Some lees contact may be used to add texture while maintaining the wine’s signature freshness.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Pale straw with green reflections
Nose: Intense aromas of grapefruit, lime, and passionfruit, with notes of fresh herbs, gooseberry, and flinty minerality
Palate: Light- to medium-bodied, with bright acidity and concentrated flavours of citrus, tropical fruit, and green herbs; a mineral backbone adds tension and precision
Finish: Long and refreshing, with lingering citrus, saline notes, and a crisp herbal edge

Cellaring & Pairings
Best enjoyed within 2–4 years of vintage to preserve its freshness and aromatic intensity.
Pairs well with oysters, shellfish, grilled fish, and salads. Also complements goat cheese, sushi, and dishes with citrus, herbs, or light spice.
