Le Serre Nuove Dell 'Ornellaia 2021

Tenuta dell’Ornellaia, located in Bolgheri on Tuscany’s Mediterranean coast, is one of Italy’s most prestigious estates and a benchmark producer of Super Tuscan wines. Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia is considered the estate’s “second wine,” crafted with the same philosophy and attention to detail as Ornellaia itself, but designed to be more approachable in youth.

The 2021 vintage in Bolgheri is widely regarded as exceptional, offering concentration, freshness, and balance due to favourable growing conditions throughout the season. The blend is typically composed of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, with proportions varying by vintage.

Each variety and vineyard parcel is fermented separately in stainless steel and concrete tanks, allowing for precise blending decisions. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, including a portion of new oak, before additional bottle maturation. The result is a polished yet terroir-driven wine with both power and elegance.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep ruby with garnet reflections
Nose: Aromas of blackberry, black cherry, and plum, layered with notes of cedar, tobacco, Mediterranean herbs, graphite, and sweet spice
Palate: Medium- to full-bodied, with ripe dark fruit flavours, silky tannins, and vibrant acidity; layers of cocoa, savoury herbs, and subtle oak spice add depth and complexity
Finish: Long and refined, with lingering fruit, mineral tension, and elegant Tuscan savouriness

Cellaring & Pairings
Excellent ageing potential; enjoy now with decanting or cellar for 10–15+ years.
Pairs exceptionally well with grilled steak, lamb, braised meats, and rich pasta dishes. Also complements mushroom-based cuisine, truffle dishes, and aged cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano and Pecorino Toscano.
