History

The island of Islay (pronounced eye-luh) is located to the west of the mainland and is the smallest region by area in Scotland. There are currently 9 working distilleries on Islay as of 2025, with more distilleries on the island looking to open shortly! Whiskies from this region are almost exclusively peated, and can often have notes of smoke, salinity, citrus, and vanilla.ย
