Casanova Di Neri Brunello Giovanni Neri

The 2020 vintage in Montalcino brought a warm, dry growing season with overall favorable conditions. A mild spring led to early flowering, followed by a hot and dry summer with minimal extreme heat spikes. Thanks to Casanova di Neri’s high-altitude and well-ventilated southern vineyards, grapes ripened slowly and evenly, maintaining excellent acidity and aromatic definition. The early harvest window allowed for picking at optimal phenolic maturity, with concentrated, healthy berries. This vintage is noted for its balance, clarity of fruit, and elegance, producing wines that are expressive in youth but structured for aging; qualities especially evident in the Giovanni Neri cuvée.

Tasting Notes:
The 2020 Giovanni Neri is a bold, deeply expressive Brunello that showcases the estate’s southern Montalcino terroir with precision and power. On the nose, it reveals intense aromas of dark cherry, black plum, and dried violet, layered with hints of cedar, leather, and sweet pipe tobacco. The palate is full-bodied and finely textured, featuring crushed blackberries, cocoa, and a vein of sappy herbs and iron-rich minerality. Silky tannins frame the wine's structure, while vibrant acidity carries it to a persistent, elegant finish laced with spice, balsamic hints, and a touch of graphite. A wine of finesse and strength, built for aging yet approachable with time in the glass.

Serving Suggestions:
Serve the 2020 Giovanni Neri Brunello at 18°C (64–65°F) in large-format glasses, such as Burgundy or Grand Cru stems, to amplify its aromatic depth and texture. If opened within the first 7–10 years, decant for 2–3 hours to unlock the full range of complexity. This Brunello pairs exceptionally well with roast venison, wild boar ragù, grilled Florentine steak, or truffle-infused mushroom risotto. It also complements aged cheeses like Pecorino di Pienza or Parmigiano Reggiano. With proper cellaring, it will evolve gracefully over 20–30 years, developing layers of secondary and tertiary character while retaining its structure and charm.
