Palazzo 2017 Brunello di Montalcino

Palazzo 2017 Brunello di Montalcino

Intense nose of dried currants, cooked cherries, mocha, walnuts, leather and black olives. It’s full-bodied with firm, fine-grained tannins. Rich and succulent with excellent concentration and delicious chocolate and dark-fruit notes. - James Suckling

Palazzo 2017 Brunello di Montalcino

The 2017 growing season in Montalcino was shaped by hot, dry conditions, particularly during the summer months, leading to lower yields and smaller berries with naturally concentrated flavors.

Tasting Notes:
Complex aromas of dried cherry, rose petal, cedar, and a touch of balsamic spice. On the palate, the wine is broad and structured, offering layers of ripe plum, black tea, bitter cocoa, and iron-rich earth. The tannins are firm yet well integrated, supported by vibrant acidity that gives the wine lift and clarity. Notes of tobacco leaf, licorice, and dried Mediterranean herbs emerge on the long, savory finish, showcasing the wine’s age-worthy depth and traditional style.

Serving Suggestions:
Serve at 18°C (64–65°F) in large, bowl-shaped glasses to highlight its aromatics and structure. Decant for 1.5 to 2 hours to soften the tannins and allow the wine to fully open. Ideal food pairings include braised short ribs, wild boar pappardelle, roast lamb with rosemary, or mature Pecorino Toscano.

The wine is drinking well now with air, but it also has the structure to age for another 8–12 years, developing greater tertiary depth and integration over time.
