Xavier Vins Côtes du Rhône Vielles Vignes

Xavier Vins Côtes du Rhône Vielles Vignes

A dense and dark-fruited red with blackberries, dark cherries, wild herbs and baking spices on the nose. Full body with plush tannins. It has a dense core of blackberries with peppery notes developing nicely. Compact but vivid with a firm finish. - James Suckling

Xavier Vins Côtes du Rhône Vielles Vignes

Xavier Vins sources old-vine Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre from select parcels across the southern Rhône, often 50+ years old. In recent vintages (e.g., 2019–2022), the region experienced warm, dry summers with well-timed rains that helped preserve fruit freshness and intensity. Old vines handled the heat well, yielding wines with concentration, depth, and aromatic complexity, especially when blended across diverse terroirs.

Tasting Notes:
This wine offers a rich, expressive nose of blackberry, raspberry compote, and garrigue herbs, accented by notes of licorice, pepper, and smoked meat. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, showing ripe dark fruit, savory spice, and a touch of mineral grip. Tannins are smooth but present, and a fresh acidity carries the wine through a long, balanced finish.

Serving Suggestions:
16–18°C (60–64°F) in Rhône or universal red wine glasses. Decant for 30–45 minutes to allow the wine to open. Ideal with grilled meats, cassoulet, charcuterie, or roast vegetables with herbs. Drink now for bold fruit or cellar for 5–7 years to develop earthier, more savory layers.
