Wirra Wirra 2023 Farmer's Heart Grenache

Wirra Wirra 2023 Farmer's Heart Grenache

Ripe, but a product of the cool year, this drinks towards mid-weight, with strawberry, wild raspberry, sour cherry, damson, pomegranate and medicinal herbs coiled into a thoughtful and intricate warp and weft of tannin. Thereโ€™s a pleasing sour-fruited tension to this, which complements the grip, the combination aching for food. The ripeness is ร  point, the structure bravely savoury and compelling. Itโ€™s delightful, but no pushover. - James Hallidayย

Wirra Wirra Farmers Heart Grenache

Wirra Wirra, established in 1894 and revitalized in the 1960s, is a well-regarded producer in McLaren Vale, South Australia. The winery is known for combining traditional values with contemporary winemaking, with a focus on regional expression and sustainable vineyard practices.
The Farmerโ€™s Heart Grenache is sourced from dry-grown, often old-vine vineyards in McLaren Vale, where warm conditions and coastal influences contribute to ripe fruit balanced by natural acidity. Grenache is particularly well-suited to these conditions, producing wines with both generosity and finesse.
Winemaking typically involves gentle handling to preserve aromatic lift and texture, often including partial whole-bunch fermentation. Oak use is restrained, with ageing in large-format or older barrels to maintain focus on fruit and site rather than overt oak influence. The result is a more refined and expressive style of Grenache.
