Chateau Giscours 2021 Margaux

Chateau Giscours 2021 Margaux

Dark spice aromas are here, along with rich tannins and structure, just hinting at the wood aging. The wine, from the south of the appellation, has a rich effect, while also having the Margaux elegance. It is beautifully finished. - Wine Enthusiast

Chateau Giscours 2021 Margaux

The 2021 vintage at the esteemed estate ChΓ’teau Giscours (a Third Growth in the 1855 classification) was harvested between September 27 and October 13, celebrated as the estate’s 450th harvest. The blend is approximately 65 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 32 % Merlot and 3 % Petit Verdot. Grapes were sorted (both optical and manual), destemmed, then underwent a cold pre-fermentation maceration followed by alcoholic fermentation with gentle extraction (about 35 days at ~28 Β°C).

On the nose, expect violet and rose-petal florals, black cherry and currant, with touches of mint, orange peel, dried herbs and forest floor. On the palate the wine is medium-to-full bodied, with a core of dark fruit framed by firm yet polished tannins, fresh acidity, and that characteristic Margaux elegance rather than brute power. Hints of licorice, cedar, tobacco leaf and gravelly minerality linger through a long finish. Drinking window is suggested from around 2026 and extending into the 2030s and beyond.
