Chateau Mancedre 2016 Pessac-Leognan

Divided into four parcels, this 34-acre property was revived by the present owner. Rich tannins have now softened into the black fruits to give this almost mature wine, ripe, spicy and with a dense, dark coffee aftertaste. - Wine Enthusiast

Chateau Mancedre 2016 Pessac-Leognan

The 2016 vintage in Bordeaux is considered one of the greatest of the modern era. A wet spring replenished groundwater reserves, followed by a warm, dry summer that encouraged slow, even ripening. Cool nights preserved acidity and aromatic precision, while the extended harvest period allowed for optimal phenolic maturity. For Pessac-Léognan, these conditions produced wines with ripe fruit concentration, elegance, and exceptional balance, ensuring remarkable aging potential.

Tasting Notes & Serving Suggestions:
Aromas of blackcurrant, plum, and ripe blackberry are layered with cedar, graphite, and a hint of tobacco leaf. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, offering flavors of dark cherry, cocoa, and earthy spice, supported by fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. The finish is long, polished, and mineral-driven, showcasing both freshness and depth.
Serve at 17–18°C (63–65°F) in large Bordeaux-style glasses to showcase its layered aromatics and structure. Decant for 1 hour if drinking now to soften the tannins and open the bouquet. Ideal pairings include herb-crusted lamb, grilled ribeye steak, duck confit, or aged Comté. Enjoyable now with proper aeration but will evolve beautifully over the next 12–15 years.
