Ruffino 2020 Ducale Oro Gran Selezione

This wine comes from the heart of the Chianti Classico zone in Tuscany, on select vineyards in the Gretole and Santedame estates in Castellina in Chianti. The blend is dominated by Sangiovese (about 80 %), with the remainder including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and other complementary grapes. The ageing regime is approximately 36 months: 12 months in concrete vats, then ~12 months in older barriques, followed by ~12 months in large Slavonian oak casks.

The wine pours with a ruby-red hue with garnet edges. On the nose you’ll find intense aromas of violet, cherry and plum, layered with chocolate, spice (cinnamon/clove), tobacco and black pepper. On the palate it is full-bodied and structured: generous dark- and red-fruit core, firm but elegant tannins, bright acidity, and a lingering finish marked by chocolate, coffee and subtle mineral/iron-toned notes.
