Bodegas Muriel Gran Reserva Rioja

Bodegas Muriel Gran Reserva Rioja

This shows aromas of dried flowers, dark berries and red fruit. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, with fine-grained tannins balanced by a persistent thread of dark fruit that carries through the finish. Shows slow evolution and remarkable freshness despite its nine years. - James Suckling

Bodegas Muriel 2016 Gran Reserva Rioja

Muriel Gran Reserva is produced from Tempranillo vines averaging 35–40 years old, sourced from vineyards in Rioja Alavesa and selected areas of Rioja Alta. The vines are traditionally bush-trained and planted on poor, chalky clay-loam soils.

Following harvest, the grapes undergo approximately 20 days of fermentation and maceration in stainless steel, with daily pump-overs to extract colour and tannin. The wine then matures for a minimum of 24 months in 225-litre French and American oak barrels, followed by an impressive 36 months of bottle ageing before release.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Classic ruby red developing an orange-garnet rim, reflecting its extended maturation in barrel and bottle.

Nose: Intense and complex, with ripe red and dark fruit layered with vanilla, coffee, baking spices, tobacco, leather, and dried leaves. The mature aromas are beautifully integrated with the wine's remaining fruit character.

Palate: Smooth and silky, with ripe plum and cherry fruit complemented by vanilla, coffee, cedar, tobacco, and savoury spice. Refined tannins and characteristic Rioja acidity provide structure while keeping the wine elegant and remarkably food-friendly.

Finish: Long and polished, with lingering fruit, fine oak spice, tobacco, leather, and earthy nuances.
